2nd Bundesliga: Negative series continues: Lautern loses in Elversberg

The sporting decline of 1. FC Kaiserslautern continues unabated. The Palatinate team lost the neighborhood duel at SV Elversberg 0-1 (0-0) and have now been winless in five second division games. Muhammed Damar scored the only goal in the 66th minute in front of 9,502 spectators in the sold-out Arena an der Kaiserlinde. While Elversberg initially climbed to eighth place in the table with twelve points, FCK initially fell back to twelfth place with nine points.

The visitors were the better team in the derby in the first half. Marlon Ritter in the 23rd minute with a direct free kick and Daisuke Yokota (40th) missed Lauterer’s best opportunities. On the other side, Elversberg’s Fisnik Asllani put a shot over the crossbar in stoppage time.

Four minutes after the restart, Asllani should have taken the lead, but he missed the goal after Elias Baum’s cross. After that, the hosts had the game under control. After Lukas Petkov missed two good chances, Damar took the deserved lead.

Asllani could have decided the game, but FCK goalkeeper Julian Krahl made a brilliant save. Because Kaiserslautern could no longer create any chances in the final phase, the Saarlanders’ deserved victory was due to Elversberg’s improvement in performance.
