Inter beat Torino thanks to Thuram’s hat-trick

In the first match of the seventh matchday of Serie A, a hungry Inter defeats the revelation Torino 3-2, left with ten men after 20 minutes. At San Siro the limelight is all for Marcus Thuram, author of a memorable hat-trick: for Torino, however, Zapata (later out due to injury) and Vlasic scored on a penalty. The hosts dominated the match, but showed some worrying carelessness which allowed their opponents to score twice. Inter are good at directing the match from the first half. After an initial phase characterized by patient ball possession, the Italian champions managed to break down Torino’s low block. The Nerazzurri’s task was made easier by Maripan’s egregious naivety: the former Monaco defender, in fact, after a review at the VAR, was sent off following a dangerous hammer-foot on Thuram.

Despite the numerical inferiority, the Granata try not to give too much of the field to their opponents. In front of Vanoli’s team, however, Thuram stands simply in a state of grace. In the space of ten minutes, between the 25th and 35th minutes, the Frenchman scores two headers, at the end of two photocopy actions: the crosses both come from the left and bear the signature of Bastoni first, then Acerbi. The double advantage, however, only lasts a handful of seconds. Inter got distracted and conceded Zapata’s goal to make it 2-1 in the 36th minute, finding himself all alone in front of Sommer. In the 40th minute Dimarco has the chance to put the guests within two goals, but Milinkovic denies him the joy of scoring. In the second half, Zapata’s great sacrifice was not enough to get Torino to take the field and breathe. The Nerazzurri continue to grind out the game, crushing Vanoli’s men in their own midfield. The third goal is only a matter of minutes and once again the scorer is Thuram: in the 60th minute the Inter attacker scores the first Italian hat-trick, scoring from a few steps away. Inzaghi’s boys also came close to scoring the fourth goal several times with Lautaro and Taremi.

In the final it rained on wet ground for Torino, forced to deal with Zapata’s injury: the Colombian actually left the pitch on a stretcher. However, the guests gave themselves a recovery of hope, taking advantage of Inter’s second mistake of the evening. Calhanoglu knocks down Masina in the area: Vlasic goes from the spot to make it 3-2. With this success, Inter temporarily returns to second place, -2 behind leaders Napoli. On the other hand, however, Toro is forced to lick his wounds, receiving his second consecutive knockout.
