A very short turn and then it’s gone: according to information from Foot Mercato, Claude Makélélé is already no longer the coach of Asteras Tripolis, in the Greek first division. The former defensive midfielder for the France team (71 caps) was named head of the 7th in the Greek championship on September 13 and took up his position a few days later.
Less than a month was therefore enough to reveal too great differences with its management to allow the adventure to continue, explains the French media. “The choices imposed by the club’s internal management regarding the playing system and the players called up made the exercise of his profession impossible,” explains Foot Mercato.
Claude Makélélé will therefore have, in all, managed only three very small matches on the bench of the team where we find, in particular, the former Manchester United striker Federico Macheda. He will keep an undefeated record: two draws and a victory, this Sunday, against Mathieu Valbuena’s Athens Kallithea (3-1).
It was Claude Makélélé’s third experience as a coach, after a short stint at SC Bastia in 2014 and two seasons spent on the bench at KAS Eupen, in Belgium, between 2017 and 2019.
