After a turnaround, Vekić won the second round of the Masters in Wuhan

The best Croatian tennis player Donna Vekić advanced to the 2nd round of the WTA 1000 tournament in Wuhan, she overcame the Belgian with a turnaround 3-6, 6-1, 6-3 Elise Mertens.

In the first set according to Vekić was fatal was a bad service game, the 28-year-old Osje lost three out of four games on her opening shot. Mertens made the first “break” for 2-0 leaving Vekić to 0, but our player retaliated by winning two games in a row for 2-2 and had as many as five “break-balls” to take the lead. After she did not use them, she again fell behind in the score, so even though she returned to the game for the second time, after losing her serve for the third time by 3-5, there was no way back in the first part.

She was Vekić close to losing serve in the first game of the second set, but she saved two “break balls” in order to dominate the court after 1-1. She won six games in a row and won the second set 6-1 with a break in the third. She did not manage to confirm that “break”, but Mertens kept the score even until 2-2. Vekić then won three games in a row, two of them on her opponent’s serve, and reached a winning position. She failed to close the match on her opening shot, but at 5-3 she once again took away Mertens’ serve without losing a point.
