Football: Former referee Steinhaus-Webb becomes a FIFA official

Bibiana Steinhaus-Webb is taking on a key role at the world football association. The 45-year-old was presented as “Head of the Women’s Department of the FIFA Referee Subdivision”. “I am very pleased to be joining FIFA and contributing to the continued promotion of women’s refereeing,” said Steinhaus-Webb. “I feel very honored to be able to contribute my experience and support female referees worldwide.” Steinhaus-Webb, who was still the only female referee to referee in the men’s Bundesliga, most recently worked as a TV expert on ARD. In her new role, Steinhaus-Webb will oversee and promote the development of women’s refereeing at all levels alongside FIFA member associations and confederations.

The chairman of the FIFA Referees Committee, Pierluigi Collina, said in the association’s statement: “With the help of Bibiana’s outstanding experience as a trailblazer in football and her deep understanding of the current challenges facing female referees, we can train the next generation of elite female match officials.”
