The break in the summer fairy tale process lasts a few weeks longer than initially planned. The proceedings before the Frankfurt Regional Court will not continue until November 7th. The trial was interrupted in mid-September due to presiding judge Eva-Marie Distler’s illness and was originally scheduled to continue on October 11th. In the trial that opened at the beginning of March, the three former top DFB officials Theo Zwanziger, Wolfgang Niersbach and Horst R. Schmidt originally had to answer on suspicion of tax evasion in a particularly serious case.
The three accused have always strictly denied the accusation. The case against the former DFB President Niersbach has now been discontinued against a fine of 25,000 euros, while the case against the former DFB General Secretary Schmidt was severed in June for health reasons. That’s why the process was interrupted for several weeks in the summer.
