Jakob Ingebrigtsen was severely disappointed in the 1,500m final at the Paris Olympics. The Norwegian opens up about it in the story about Ingebrigtsen’s family Born to Run – in the new series.
The Norwegian, who won gold in the same distance at the Tokyo Olympics, entered the final in Paris as the favorite to win, but in the end had to settle for fourth place.
Ingebrigtsen took her failure hard.
In the sixth episode of the series, we get a look behind the scenes, when Ingebrigtsen is filmed after the 1,500 meter run in Paris. Norwegian NRK by in the episode, you can see how the runner feels quite absent when meeting his family the day after the performance.
The Norwegian describes his run as a “traumatic event”, which he keeps replaying in his head.
“As a top athlete and runner, I am definitely a slave in my own life. The bubble is so big and the shell so strong that it is difficult to get out,” Ingebrigtsen tells NRK.
Also a runner’s spouse Elisabeth Asserson Ingebrigtsen has experienced the pain of disappointments. According to him, the 1,500m final in Paris was the only moment that felt difficult during the past year.
“It’s never fun, I know that. It feels pointless when you work so hard and fail. But that’s what sports are.”
Ingebrigtsen also had a button success in Paris. He took gold in the 5,000m final.
