Sinner beats Shelton in the round of 16 of the Shanghai Masters

Jannik Sinner has reached the quarter-finals of the “Rolex Shanghai Masters”, the ATP 1000 tournament staged on the hard court of the economic capital of China (with a total prize pool of 10,298,535 dollars). The Italian tennis player, number one in the world and seeded, defeated the American Ben Shelton, number 16 in the international ranking and 14th favorite on the draw, in the round of 16 with a score of 6-4 7-6.

Only one break in the first set, obtained in the ninth and decisive game by Sinner, who in the fourth game canceled out two break points for his opponent. However, no service was lost in the second half, where the South Tyrolean had to face five break points: two in the sixth game and three in the eighth game, in which he was down 0-40. Then the Italian showed his usual excessive power in the decisive moments and dominated the tie-break, played impeccably and won 7-1.

Thus Sinner took revenge on Shelton, who had beaten him last year in Shanghai, again in the round of 16, prevailing in the tie-break of the third set. Now, in the quarterfinals, the blue awaits the winner of the match between the Russian Daniil Medvedev, 5th in the world and in the seeding, and the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas, 12th atp and tenth in the draw.
