Italy – Berlusconi’s heirs want to sell first division team Monza

The family of former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, who died in 2023, wants to withdraw from the football business for the time being. The heirs are planning to sell the first division soccer team Monza Calcio. Media holding Fininvest, owned by Berlusconi’s five children, is in talks with Italian-American billionaire Mario Gabelli about selling a majority stake, Corriere dello Sport reported. The negotiations are already in an advanced phase. Gabelli heads Gamco Investors, a company that manages $31 billion. According to Forbes estimates, his personal fortune is almost two billion dollars. A spokesman for Fininvest confirmed the intention of Berlusconi’s children to part ways with the club. Berlusconi was the owner of AC Milan from 1986 to 2017. He took over Monza in September 2018, and the club was then promoted to Serie A for the first time in its 100-year history.
