Rugby: Mont-de-Marsan’s tribute to its young player who died at 17

Terrible drama on the Landes roads this Sunday. Keilani Itae, 17, was killed while driving his car near Mazerolles, between Mont-de-Marsan and Aire-sur-l’Adour. According to Sud-Ouest, his vehicle hit a tree, a fatal shock for the young man despite the rapid intervention of emergency services. Keilani had just obtained his license this summer, according to the local press. Since January 2024, the legal age for obtaining a driving license has been lowered from 18 to 17 years old.

This dramatic accident caused a wave of emotion in the region, and in particular at Stade Montois, the club in the Landes prefecture where Keilani Itae played, within the Crabos (junior) team. “The Gathering of Aire-sur-Adour and Grenade joins forces with Stade Montois to present their sincere condolences and support to the family of Keilani Itae,” wrote the Landes club in a press release.

Provale, the rugby players’ union, also sent its condolences to the family, friends, supervisors and teammates of the young player.
