False start for SKN women in Sweden

The footballers of the SKN St. Pölten the start to the Champions League failed. The Austrian champions conceded to the Swedish title holders in Stockholm on Wednesday evening Hammarby IF a deserved 0-2 defeat. For the coach’s team Read Brancao it was the first defeat of the season. Next Wednesday (6.45 p.m.) will be the home game of the “Wolves” against Manchester City, which will, however, be played in Vienna’s Generali Arena.

Ellen Wangerheim failed twice from the best position to Schlüter (46th/49th). It was only after an hour that the Bundesliga leaders’ game became more powerful. Melike Pekel narrowly missed the equalizer from close range (64′), a shot from Mateja Zver was just blocked by Hammarby captain Alice Carlsson (73′).

A little later, Schlüter and substitute Tea Krznaric worked together to prevent anything worse from happening against Smilla Vallotto, with Krznaric scraping the ball off the goal line (77′). Shortly before the end of regular time, Cathinka Tandberg closed the bag. After a great pass from Asato Miyagawa, the substitute striker had no trouble increasing the score to 2-0. Tandberg missed the chance to make it 3-0 in stoppage time, but Hammarby’s first win in the Champions League remained safe.

FC Bayern Munich with ÖFB team player Sarah Zadrazil celebrated a clear home win against Arsenal in the Women’s Football Champions League on Wednesday. The Bavarians won 5-2, giving ÖFB keeper Manuela Zinsberger an evening to forget in the Gunners’ goal. The English women kept the game open until the 73rd minute (2:2), then the Danish Pernille Harder scored a flawless hat trick for the Munich women within 13 minutes. Zadrazil, who recently had muscular problems, played for 70 minutes. Laura Wienroither was not in the Arsenal squad.
