Champions League – Harder shoots Bayern women to victory over Arsenal

Pernille Harder led the FC Bayern Munich players to victory in the first game of the new season in the Champions League. The Dane scored the decisive goal to make it 5:2 (1:1) over Arsenal FC. The visitors’ lead by Mariona Caldentey (30′) was equalized by Bayern captain Glodis Viggosdottir (43′). After the goals from Sydney Lohmann (56th) and Laia Codina (65th), it was time for Harder, who scored a hat trick within a quarter of an hour with her goals after 73, 78 and 86 minutes.

In the end the success was more obvious than the game. For 40 minutes, the Londoners were clearly the better team and gave the hosts little opportunity to develop. Only with the equalizer did the Munich team find their game, didn’t allow themselves to be disturbed by the second goal and achieved a deserved victory.

Thanks to their success, the Munich team continued their flawless series in competitive games: Bayern had previously won all seven games in the championship, the DFB Cup and the Supercup. For the Bundesliga table leaders and defending champions, the top game against long-term rivals VfL Wolfsburg is on Saturday (5.45 p.m./MagentaSport). Four days later, the second group game in the European premier class follows at Juventus Turin.
