Greece attacks Wembley and Belgium draws in Rome

The England team stumbled against Greece in a tough defeat in stoppage time (1-2) on the third day of the Nations League at Wembley, while Belgium scratched a draw (2-2) for Rome against an Italy that was left with 10 in the first half.

The English team, in the second division of the UEFA competition, suffered a serious setback in its objective of returning to the best. In a match marked by the memory of the late George Baldock, a Greek international but with a long past in English football, Greece took the three points and the lead in Group 2.

Vangelis Pavlidis, Benfica forward, signed a historic double personally and collectively in London, both in the second half and the final 1-2 in the 94th minute. In his third game on the English bench, Lee Carsley suffered his first defeat , despite the fact that Jude Bellingham at least brought the tie closer in the 87th minute.

The Real Madrid player seemed to make up for a poor match by the English, with zero offensive production, but in stoppage time the Greeks’ triumph was confirmed, the first victory in their history over the inventors of football, leaders with nine points to the six of an England that had Dominic Solanke again seven years later.

Meanwhile, in Division A, the first category of the Nations League, France beat Israel (1-4) with goals from Eduardo Camavinga, Christopher Nkunku, Matteo Guendouzi and Bradley Barcola, to add six points, although the lead remains Italy (7).

Luciano Spalletti’s team failed at the Olympic Stadium in Rome since, in the 24th minute, they won 2-0 with goals from Andrea Cambiaso, in the first minute, and Mateo Retegui. The script changed with the red for Lorenzo Pellegrini, after a VAR warning, and the 2-1 for Maxim de Cuyper even before the break. Trossard scored the equalizer in the second half and four points for Belgium.

Furthermore, in the duel between Norway and Slovenia, Erling Haaland became the Nordic team’s all-time top scorer by reaching 34 goals with a double, surpassing the forward of the 20s and 30s, Jorgen Juve. The Manchester City striker, in his 36th game with his national team, consolidated Norway’s leadership in Group 3 of the second division of the tournament.
