Hold on, master! Georg Koch, seriously ill, received Dinamo’s jersey at the farewell match

George Koch (52) is going through very difficult months, the former Dinamo goalkeeper found out earlier this year that he has only a few months left to live due to incurable pancreatic cancer. He is aware of everything and has spoken about it publicly, and this Saturday his wish to have a humanitarian farewell match in Marienfeld, Germany came true.

His former club Dinamo sent him there Ivana Kelavu (36), the current goalkeeper coach in younger age categories and Koch’s reserve in the 2007/08 season. It was Kelava’s first season at the club. The former Croatian football player gave him a special jersey with the inscription “Koch mit uns” (Koch with us) and the number 1, as well as a cap and a club scarf.

Dinamo published an emotional photo on social media, where “blue” fans left numerous messages of support: “Welcome to Zagreb, legend George”, “Tears came to my eyes, I got fed up. Well done to the club”, “Forever one of us”, “Bravo”, are some of the comments.

In his hometown, Koch organized a match of the local club against the legends Fortune Düsseldorf, and all proceeds go to the children’s hospital for cancer patients.

– Playing again is a special thing for me. I’ve never had a farewell game after my career. Now it’s high time, and I’ve been happy for days because of this event in my homeland. I am aware that this may be the last time I see my dear teammates, so I will try to absorb, enjoy and remember every moment of that day – said Koch.

Dinamo wanted to host Koch back in the spring at the celebration of the championship title, and invited him to Munich for the Champions League match. Due to his serious condition, he could not come, but that’s why his former teammateč came to him on a day that will dignify the career of the great goalkeeper and fighter who, among other things, defended 213 times in the Bundesliga, 165 times in the 2nd Bundesliga and 17 times in the UEFA Cup.
