CustomSkin’s miracle ski invention is now buzzing in Sweden

Last in spring, during the Salpausselkä Games, information began to trickle out into the public about the innovation of the ski workshop in Kärkölä, which might even revolutionize the traditional way of skiing.

It is CustomSkin’s new type of grip sole ski, which caught the eyes of the skiing world during the closing weekend of last season in Falun. For example Johanna Matintalo immediately skied sensationally on the podium.

Like Matintalo, others who got access to the invention have also had to sign a non-disclosure agreement.

CustomSki has applied for a patent for its invention, and under no circumstances does it want the innovation to leak into the hands of competitors through industrial espionage.

Now Esa and Pasi Virosen piloted by CustomSkin’s invention is booming in Sweden. Expressen magazine published on Monday morning an extensive articlein which it recounts the short history of the “Finnish mystery invention” and the veil of secrecy surrounding it.

“I had no expectations when I went to test them. It has been heard many times that this or that invention will revolutionize the sport, but nothing has happened in the end. But this was really true”, who himself got to test the Vironen brothers’ invention thanks to a non-disclosure agreement Teodor Peterson told Expressen.

Ruotsalaislehti also interviewed the maintenance manager of the country’s cross country team on the subject Anders Svanebota. He said that right now he was following Päijät-Häme’s secretive activities without any sensitivity.

Svanebo said that the Swedish national team skiers were able to test the Finnish invention on the Sognefjellet glacier in June.

However, the control was unusually precise.

“There was a supervisor next to me the whole time, making sure we don’t turn the skis over and look at the bottom,” Svanebo said.

Estonians have been very strict since last spring, not even taking close-up photos of the soles of grip skis.

An experienced professional, Svanebokin had a round lip.

“Purple skis have been in the skiing world for a while now, and this is like pruple 2.0. Further developed. And this isn’t just a hair foundation. I really don’t know what they’ve done.”

Yet it is not known when CustomSki will receive its patent and the hyped miracle product will be brought to the wider market from behind the smoke screen.

“It’s like they’re sitting on a gold mine,” Peterson told Expressen.

Expressen had also reached out to CustomSkin CEO Esa Vironen for its story. However, according to the magazine, the interview with Vironen, who is considered a mystical skiing equipment guru, ran into a language barrier right after shaking hands.

Of course at least the big ski equipment manufacturers Fischer and Rossignol have expressed their interest in buying the rights to CustomSkin’s invention.

“There have been inquiries from various ski manufacturers, but I can’t tell you more about it. So we have been asked, among other things, whether the copyrights of our inventions are for sale. Well, it probably depends on the price,” CEO Vironen told Ilta-Sanom in April.

The company from Kärkölä does not, at least for now, have its own ski model for its grip sole adjustment, but instead installs them on any standard traditional ski. The ski has a completely new type of grip area treatment: there is no substance on the bottom, but a factory-made mechanical grip area.

So the ski does not have a grippy base, but it still does not need to be lubricated.

As the new ski season approaches, speculations about a secret Finnish invention are intensifying even more.

The Skiing World Cup starts in Kuusamo between November and December.
