Schalke coach on differences with Koeman

The new Schalke coach Kees van Wonderen often had a different opinion than the Bond coach during his job as Ronald Koeman’s assistant in the Dutch national football team. “During my time as an assistant coach, I realized: You’re no longer in charge! It happened that I wanted to go left, but he wanted to go right. “I told him early on that it was difficult for me,” the 55-year-old told “Sport Bild”.

Between March 2018 and December 2019, van Wonderen worked as an assistant at Elftal. He wanted to decide more for himself. “Eventually I finished it myself. Being assistant coach of the Netherlands was a great experience, but it didn’t feel right for me anymore,” said van Wonderen, who then coached the Go Ahead Eagles from Deventer and SC Heerenveen as head coach.

Schalke lost their first second division game under the new coach. The former Bundesliga club lost 1-0 to Hannover 96 on Saturday. The traditional club is currently in 14th place in the table.
