Jorginho blasts Coritiba after defeat: “We didn’t deserve to win”

The technician Jorginho vented after the defeat of Coritiba against Paysandu, 2-1, this Wednesday (22), at Estádio Curuzu, in Belém, for the 33rd round of Series B. The coach criticized the performance of Alviverde, who had one more on the field.

“It’s even difficult to explain a situation like this, because the normal thing was for our team to maintain control of the game. At no point did we deserve to win this game, we didn’t. We played a terrible game, completely disorganized. We lost duels, we only had flashes of good play, especially in goal”, said the coach.

Coxa took the lead in the first half, with a goal from Brumado, and in the second half they had the advantage of having one more player, after Matheus Trindade was sent off. Even so, Figueiredo committed a penalty, and João Vieira converted. Then, Jean Dias turned around.

“I don’t know if it was due to the field or the weather, the team was unable to demonstrate what it had been doing in the last few games. A defeat that hurts a lot. I apologize to the fans, I am the commander, the responsibility belongs to everyone, but as leader, I take responsibility. There were a lot of mistakes, we were hardly organized at all. Everything went wrong today. Paysandu is to be congratulated, they managed to win even with one less”, added Jorginho.

Jorginho explains changes at Coritiba

Coritiba conceded both goals in the second half after Jorginho removed midfielder Matheus Frizzo and attacking midfielder Lucas Ronier, to replace Alef Manga, who came on without rhythm, and Figueiredo, who committed the penalty.

“Ronier already had a card, as they had an expulsion, it was very likely that if he committed a foul [o juiz] wanted to compensate, so we removed Ronier. Frizzo didn’t play a good game, defensively they weren’t able to score, they were superior on the right side, so the option was precisely to give them a little more possession of the ball and Manga has that ability”, said the coach.

Still, Jorginho does not include the result in terms of substitutions since, according to him, the entire team did poorly.

“For me it’s not a question of substitution, but rather because we didn’t do well. We have to swallow this defeat, lift our heads. We know that access is very, very difficult, but it is possible”, he added.

Coritiba is very far from access

With the result, the team became more complicated in the fight for access. The team is in ninth place, with 47 points, nine behind the G4. With five games to go, there are only 15 more points possible to be won.

With this, the maximum score that Coxa will be able to reach is 62 points. The average points for access in the last ten years was 63 points.

Furthermore, Coxa still faces two teams that are in the G4 in the next rounds, Mirassol, in the 35th round, away from home, and Santos, in the 36th, at Couto Pereira.
