AS Monaco-Etoile Rouge (5-1): inspired offensively, the Monegasques achieve a second success in the Champions League

First doubt, then demonstration. This Saturday, during the third day of the group stage of the Champions League, AS Monaco scared themselves in the first half, before unfolding in the second act. By causing an obvious penalty, Thilo Kehrer confirmed the gloomy impression initially left by the Monegasques. The goals from Breel Embolo and Wilfried Singo, however, reassured the supporters, before a one-sided end to the match.

The stakes were high for the Rocher club. In the event of success, a provisional first place was available to him, while a defeat, after the draw in the pouring rain in Zagreb, would have forced the Monegasques to seek points from big clients. The start of the match, tense and uninviting, betrayed this nervousness, until Takumi Minamino opened the scoring (20th). Launched in depth by Wilfried Singo and covered by the Korean Seol, the Japanese presented himself completely alone against the Serbian goalkeeper Ilic and did not tremble.

The relief, however, was short-lived. After a missed clearance from Singo, Thilo Kehrer came back with long strides to try to catch Ndiaye. In his momentum, however, the former Parisian missed the ball and mowed down the attacker with his left foot. He did not hesitate to equalize and restart the match.

The break was just around the corner when the Monegasques struck a second time. Found at the edge of the area by Ben Seghir, Breel Embolo took advantage of a mix-up in the Serbian defense to deceive Ilic (45 + 3rd). The break was over. At the start of the second period, Wilfried Singo sent a powerful strike from 35 meters into the Serbian top corner. An absolutely stratospheric goal which definitely reassured the spectators at the Louis-II stadium.

After a second goal from Embolo finally canceled for a handball, the Swiss offered his double to Minamino (70th). Liberated, Adi Hutter’s men took advantage of the end of the match to try combinations. Aleksandr Golovin even saw his splendid shot hit the post. A few seconds before the end, Maghnes Akliouche completed the Monegasque work. Thanks to this victory, Monaco has 7 points and is closer to qualifying for the round of 16. But he is undoubtedly aiming directly for the 8th and, therefore, the top 8 of this group phase.
