The fans and players of Panathinaikos and Chelsea paid tribute together to George Baldock, the defender of the Greek club who died on 9 October at just 31 years old. The Europa League match between the two teams, won 4-1 by the Blues with a brace from Joao Felix, was the occasion for a tribute to the footballer born in England but with Greek origins from his maternal grandmother.
The fans of the two teams held up cards with the number 32, that of Baldock, and the Panathinaikos players warmed up with the shirts with the number 32 and those of Chelsea also showed off a blue shirt with the same number. Baldock, found dead in the swimming pool of his villa south of Athens, had also played for Sheffield United and Derby County, but had Greek origins on his maternal grandmother.
