Ferrari dominates in Mexico. Sainz wins, Leclerc third

Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz dominates and wins the Mexican GP ahead of an amazing Lando Norris eager to close the gap with Max Verstappen. Third place went to the other Ferrari, that of Charles Leclerc, who also set the best time (and therefore gained a further point), fourth and fifth went to the Mercedes of Hamilton and Russell. World champion Verstappen was only sixth and received a 20-second penalty for an incorrect battle with Norris. Magnuessen’s Haas was seventh, Oscar Piastri (McLaren) was eighth, Hulkenberg’s other Haas was ninth, Gasly was tenth.

Leclerc’s words

“It was a difficult race because we had to manage the temperatures as best we could. I did the best race possible and third place was the best possible placing for me. In any case it was a good weekend for the team, every point counts for the Constructors’ title and Ferrari is doing well. The team is working very well, we have returned to our level for a few races. We hope to continue in this direction.”

Sainz’s words

“It’s incredible to see this crowd, I felt their support throughout the weekend. I wanted this victory, I needed it, I wanted one last victory before leaving Ferrari and I succeeded. Now four races remain, I want to enjoy them as much as possible Is it possible to overtake Verstappen? I didn’t prepare him, I was annoyed by the start, I wanted to surprise him, I was a little behind and I had nothing to lose. If I had to choose a place to win I couldn’t choose better than Mexico.”
