Dynamo leaves with their heads held high

The sadness at Dynamo Dresden was limited. Neither the coach nor the players, nor even the vast majority of the 30,070 fans, struggled with elimination after the 2:3 (0:0, 2:2) in the second round of the DFB Cup against Darmstadt 98. The performance of the third division team against the Bundesliga relegated team was too good.

“It was actually a perfect evening,” said Dynamo defender Claudio Kammerknecht. But only actually. “It was a great game with the score 2-2 in the last minute of stoppage time. And then we get the shitty counterattack,” said Kammerknecht. The 2:3 by Isac Lidberg (98th) was the blow in the neck.

Lemmer player of the game

“I’m really proud,” said two-time Dynamo goalscorer Jakob Lemmer, who put a lot of pressure on after coming on and was named player of the game. “It was great to first equalize to make it 1-1 and then score again. The powerful shot came from my stomach after I had previously failed with a flick,” said Lemmer.

You now want to transfer the performance into the league games. And the next tough test awaits Dynamo in Ingolstadt on Saturday. “We will now regenerate and then perform well again. We are physically in top shape and have a large squad. The boys will be a bit tough in Ingolstadt,” said captain Niklas Hauptmann, who was then suspended after the fifth yellow card.
