2nd Bundesliga: Regensburg bulwark holds: first win since August

Bottom team SSV Jahn Regensburg has initiated a turnaround in the 2nd Bundesliga. After the 1-0 win in the DFB Cup during the week against SpVgg Greuther Fürth, interim coach Andreas Patz’s team also won their home game against SV Elversberg 1-0 (1-0) and sent an important sign of life in the relegation battle.

With their first second division win since the beginning of August, the Regensburg team have regained contact with the non-relegation zone. After a disastrous start to the season with three defeats in a row, there can be hope again in the Upper Palatinate.

Interim coach Patz had to do without his dual leadership Eric Hottmann and Christian Kühlwetter due to injuries. Elias Huth and Noah Ganaus began. Ganaus gave the home team, who had an excellent defensive attitude, the lead in the 16th minute after a cross from Bryan Hein.

Elversberger, who had previously been unbeaten in four games, had almost overwhelmingly more possession of the ball than Regensburg, but simply couldn’t find a way through. Shortly before the final whistle, Regensburg’s Dejan Galjen (90.+4) had to leave the field with a red card after a serious foul.
