It will be in Antonio Zappi and Alfredo Trentalange the race for the presidency of the Italian Referees Association. After the announcement of the former number one’s entry into the field (“I do it for a solid, concrete, free Hague, which everyone should be able to call home”), today Zappi launches his candidacy in a note in view of the elections on 14 December.

“I am running to lead The Hague towards a future of autonomy, dialogue and innovation, built on the values ​​of arbitration excellence” is the aim of the 59-year-old professional, who works in the field of tax training and tax consultancy and has a long experience as a referee and manager. “I am first of all a referee and it is for the passion and love for this Association that I decided to apply. I want to put the skills I have gained on the field and in my professional career at the service of The Hague, to give new energy to this institution which deserves to be a point of reference for Italian and international football” says Zappi.

In his program he insists a lot on the themes of technological innovation and transparency. “The Hague has a leading role in the technological evolution of football, and my commitment will be to continue to experiment and improve tools such as VAR, also opening with conviction on the introduction of on-call VAR. We want refereeing that reduces errors to a minimum and which guarantees certainty for fans and clubs. If the conditions are right, we will also aim to broadcast the dialogues between referees and VAR live and will introduce periodic interviews with the match officials arbitration dynamics and establish a more direct dialogue with the public”.

Currently the president of The Hague is Carlo Pacifici who took over from Trentalange who resigned following the controversy following the arrest of the association’s then prosecutor, Rosario D’Onofrio, later sentenced to 5 years in prison.
