The match

The start of the match was very entertaining and full of reversals with some interesting scoring opportunities and one goal disallowed on each side. In the 9th minute Castro challenges Singo on the back line then the ball reaches Miranda who kicks hard from a tight angle without hitting the target. In the 14th minute Monaco responds with Embolo who frees himself with a magic in the penalty area and crosses it to the far post but Skorupski deflects it onto the post with a great save. Ten minutes pass and, after a chance for Fabbian, Monaco’s goal is disallowed in the 19th minute: Singo commits a foul on Skorupski, hindering him and preventing him from intervening on the cross. Then the same rossoblu goalkeeper saves himself in two more interventions on Golovin and Akliouchei. In the 41st minute, a goal scored by Castro was disallowed after he had found a great diagonal shot.

The second half was always at a high pace, with Bologna trying to close off any space for Monaco but unable to get through. In the 55th minute Posch finds a beautiful ball for Fabbian who finishes at the near post but parries Majecki. In the 72nd minute Orsolini acrobatically shoots high over the crossbar. In the 86th minute there was a cold shower with Kehrer passing Skorupski. The rossoblù lose 1-0 and stop at just one point in four matches, in the area that would lead to elimination from the competition after the maxi-round.
