Sinner and Alcaraz in different groups, here are the draws for the ATP Finals in Turin

World number one tennis player Jannik Sinner will play in the ‘Ilie Nastase group’ of the ATP Finals and will have Daniil Medvedev, Taylor Fritz and Alex De Minaur as rivals. This was established by the draw, which took place a short while ago in Turin. Sinner and world number three Carlos Alcaraz will therefore not compete in the same group of the Nitto ATP Finals in Turin. In the ‘John Newcombe’ group the Spaniard will face Alex Zverev, Casper Ruud and Andrey Rublev.

The tournament could crown an Italian tennis player as the ‘master of masters’ for the first time in history. A very rich prize pool

This year the Nitto ATP Finals will distribute a prize pool of $15.25 million. Furthermore, the singles champion who triumphs undefeated will take home 4.8 million dollars, the largest check on the men’s circuit. At the presentation evening on 8 November, the world no.1, at his third participation in the end-of-year tournament, and the strongest Italian doubles pair in the ranking, Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassoriwill take the field alongside three great protagonists of Italian music – Blanco, Madame and Marco Mengoni – and Alessandro Cattelan, who will be entrusted with hosting the evening.

A few hours after their debut in the group stage of the end-of-season tournament, the three standard bearers of Italian tennis will contribute to embellishing the party at the Inalpi Arena with their presence, a show with over 70 minutes of live performances and 20 songs in the setlist, chosen from the greatest hits from the repertoire of the three invited musical artists.

The big names on the field

The 2024 edition of the Nitto ATP Finals, in the absence of Novak Djokovic, could see the revenge of one of the two former finalists of the last two editions present, both defeated by the Serbian. In addition to Sinner, in fact, there will also be another defeated finalist, the Norwegian Casper Ruud, who returns to the Finals for the third time two years after reaching the final in Turin. Another who is a regular at the Finals is the Russian Daniil Medvedev, the current world no.4 remembers with pain the defeat suffered in 2021 by Alexander Zverev, but also boasts a success, in 2020, against Diminic Thiem.

In Turin, thanks to Djokovic’s withdrawal, there will also be the other Russian Andrey Rublev who will play for the fifth consecutive year in the ‘tournament of the masters’. Present in the last edition in London, the current world no. 9 played in all those played in Turin. Then there is Alex de Minaur who will make his debut at the Nitto ATP Finals, becoming the first Australian to compete in singles since former number 1 in the PIF ATP Rankings Lleyton Hewitt, finalist in 2004.

Finally the American Taylor Fritz. The world no.6, already a finalist at the 2024 US Open (the first American to reach the final in a slam since Wimbledon 2009 with Andy Roddick) and winner this year of the ATPs in Delray Beach and Eastbourne, has qualified for the reserved masters tournament to the best eight players in the world two years after his first and only experience, which ended against Djokovic’s ‘wall’ in the semi-final. All eight players have previously qualified for or played in the Next Gen ATP Finals presented by Pif. Sinner (2019) and Alcaraz (2021) won the title, while De Minaur (2018-19) and Rublev reached the final (2017). It is the first time since 2010 that all eight singles players are under the age of thirty.
