Genoa-Como 1-1, Vogliacco saves the Ligurians in the 95th minute

On an unusual Thursday in the championship, Genoa and Como drew 1-1 at Ferraris, at the end of a rather tense match. Vogliacco responded to Da Cunha’s goal in the 17th minute of the first half in full injury time, in the 85th minute. A precious point for Genoa, but one that smacks of mockery for Fabregas’ team, dominant for long stretches. In fact, it was Como who started strong straight away, generating scoring opportunities throughout the first half and imposing their possession of the ball. In the 17th minute, Da Cunha broke the deadlock, with his first joy in Serie A.

It all stems from Pinamonti’s naivety as he lets the ball steal from the attacking midfield: Paz thus supports the French attacking midfielder, who beats Leali with a right-footed cross. After the 1-0 the Como team came close to doubling their lead on several occasions, lacking precision. Genoa’s maneuver, however, was too slow and cumbersome: despite the great suffering, however, Gilardino’s boys still managed to worry Como’s not irreproachable rearguard. In the 35th minute, after Leali’s save on Fadera, Ekhator found himself alone in front of Reina on a counterattack: the Spanish goalkeeper read the opponent’s attempted lob, remaining on his feet and saving without problems. Pinamonti then heads to within centimeters of equalising.

In the second half Gilardino introduces Miretti and redesigns the team with a four-man defence. Just before the sixtieth minute, the match was temporarily interrupted for about two minutes, due to the intemperance of some Genoa fans, upset by some refereeing decisions: objects rained down from the stands on one of Rapuano’s assistants. In general, the second half was played at a slower pace and the rossoblu’s counterattacks proved inconsistent. Como tries on several occasions to strike on the counterattack and in the 67th minute a goal by Cutrone is disallowed for offside: there are many scoring opportunities thrown away by Fabregas’ boys, who are not very lucid in trying to make it 2-0.

Twenty minutes from the end Gilardino also plays the Balotelli card, but the Grifone’s offensive production remains sterile. A dead ball is then needed to give the home team a point. During the second minute of injury time, from a corner, after Pinamonti’s effort, Vogliacco takes care of making it 1-1. Como ultimately paid for the many errors in front of goal and was unable to recover from the three consecutive knockouts.
