By covering 6,000 km carried by his “gentle madness”, this sports coach embarked on a Paris-Dakar… on foot

Some do it by car, others by motorbike, he decided to bet on his two legs. As a good fan of motor sports, Raphaël Araujo, a 35-year-old sports coach, decided to do the Paris-Dakar… by hiking. “I wanted to do an extreme, long-term project that requires mental strength, endurance and self-sacrifice,” recalls this Parisian by telephone, who lived for a time in Vigneux-sur-Seine (Essonne).

From the sound of the engines in the background, we can tell that he is walking along a road. “The national road which crosses the desert and runs along the coast,” he explains. The adventurer is currently about ten days’ walk north of the city of Dakhla, a kitesurfing paradise lost on the Atlantic coast, in Western Sahara.
