Jannik Sinner could celebrate the semifinal of the ATP Finals in Turin already tomorrow, when the second match of the group against will be staged Taylor Fritz. After clearly beating Alex De Minaur on his debut, defeated in two sets with a score of 6-3, 6-4, the Italian tennis player is preparing to challenge the American, already defeated in the final of the previous US Open.
Fritz, in the first match, beat Daniil Medvedev in two sets (6-4, 6-3) and leads the ‘Ilie Nastase’ group together with Sinner at 1 point. Tomorrow’s match can therefore already be decisive not only for progressing to the next round, but also for first place in the group.
Sinner in the semi-final: the combinations
To enter the semi-final as first in the group, Sinner will not only have to beat Fritz, but also hope for help from his friend De Minaur. The South Tyrolean should obviously overtake the American and then he could celebrate if the Australian beat Medvedev. In this way it would rise to the solo first place with 2 pointswith the Australian reaching Fritz at 1 while the Russian would remain stuck at 0.
At that point Jannik could also afford to lose the last match against Medvedev, since if he were reached by one of De Minaur or Fritz he would still have the direct clashes in favor and would therefore precede them in the standings.
However, in the event of Sinner’s victory with Fritz and Medvedev’s success, as well as obviously in the event that the blue was defeated by Fritz, any discussion would be postponed until Thursday in the last and decisive match of the group between the Italian and the Russian.
