Lazio also wins in Monza and savors the summit

Lazio continues to fly and, after having achieved the solitary first place in the Europa League, they also taste the top of Serie A by conquering Monza and reaching Napoli together with Atalanta and Fiorentina, awaiting the big match between the Neapolitans and Inter. At the U-Power Stadium it ends 1-0 thanks to Zaccagni’s outburst in the first half, after a post hit by the number 10 himself.

Baroni’s team thus reaches 25 points with the fourth success in a row in the championship, while the former Lazio star Nesta gets his third consecutive knockout and remains embroiled in the fight for survival with 8 points in penultimate place. The first attempt of the match goes to the hosts after a couple of minutes, with Mota shooting from the edge but aiming high. About ten minutes later, the visitor’s response also came from Dia, who entered the area and let loose a left-footed shot raised for a corner by an attentive Turati. The balance risks being broken shortly after the half hour mark, when Zaccagni is unlucky to hit the post with a right-footed shot from the edge, then on the rebound Pedro sends it to the back of the net, missing a good chance. Three minutes pass and Zaccagni tries again, but this time he hits a splendid trajectory, blasting Turati to make it 1-0 for Lazio.

Baroni’s team remains in control of the match, but at the end of the first half the red and whites show up again with an imprecise overhead kick from Mota, while at the start of the second half the Lazio team presses in search of a second goal: Rovella tries with a right-footed shot from outside ( rejected by Turati) and Nuno Tavares with a couple of shots without luck. Monza, however, remains standing and is forced to increase the pressure to try to equalize: in the 72nd minute Maldini would have a wonderful opportunity, wasted by badly kicking a sort of moving penalty following an assist from Pereira.

Lazio suffers even if in the final they could close the score early with the newly introduced Castellanos, who allows himself to be hypnotized by a sure shot conclusion from Turati. So Monza had the last shot with a free kick from the edge of the box by Caprari, but the Biancoceleste barrier rejected it and saved the goal.
