Basketball|The throw of Lithuanian Justas Vazalis went on Sunday.
Its time superstar Wilt Chamberlain once scored 100 points in one NBA game. No one has come close to Chamberlain’s record, although many remember the late man Kobe Bryantin a wild 81-point night against the Toronto Raptors in 2006.
However, these wild readings pale in comparison to what was seen in Lithuania on Sunday. 28 years old Justas Vazalis bagged an absolutely extraordinary 167 points in the Kaunas local amateur league match.
The match ended with a 170–102 victory for Vazalis’ team Kaunas Reunion against LBA Akademia. Only three of Reunion’s points went to anyone other than Vazalis.
Vazalis’ throw went in an unprecedented display, and he did not spare his hot hand. According to Estonian Delfi Sport, Vazalis made 30 of his 66 three-pointers and 32 of his 43 two-pointers. He also sank 13 free throws.
The match another interesting name also emerges from the statistics. Jonas Maciulis namely distributed the ball diligently to the jumps of Vazalis. Maciulis recorded a whopping 29 assists leading to baskets.
The 39-year-old Maciulis has a strong attachment to the amateur league, as in the 2020–21 season he played professionally for AEK Athens in the Greek League and the Champions League. In 2015, he won the first European competition, the Euroleague championship, in the shirt of Real Madrid.
Maciulis also played a long and successful career in the Lithuanian national team. Laituri won the World Championship bronze in 2010, European Championship silver in 2013 and 2015, and European Championship bronze in 2007. In the 2015 European Championship, Maciulis was selected for the all-star team of the Games.
Vazalis, on the other hand, has a background in the Lithuanian youth national team, and his statistics also include a few matches in the country’s main league.
