Due to a severe weather warning, the opening game of the final round of the Billie Jean King Cup in Malaga, Spain, has been postponed. The duel between hosts Spain and Poland is now scheduled to take place on Friday (10 a.m.) instead of this Wednesday.
More than 200 people were recently killed in violent storms in Spain. In addition to the Valencia region, which was particularly affected, there was also major damage in Andalusia due to heavy rain and flooding. Afterwards, there was heavy criticism of the authorities for warning people too late about the severe storms.
In order to ensure the safety of everyone involved, the decision was made to postpone the game between Spain and Poland, the organizers said in a statement. The German team starts the final round against Great Britain on Friday (5 p.m.).
