Football|Joshua Kimmich thinks that the German team’s attitude at the World Cup was wrong.
in Qatar the men’s World Cup in football that was played caused many kinds of protests both before and during the games.
Germany was one of seven European teams planning to wear rainbow colored captain’s armbands to stand up for equality and tolerance.
However, the international football association Fifa intervened in the situation. The German players ended up making a different kind of protest.
When the players took the traditional team picture before Germany’s tournament opener against Japan, they covered their mouths with their hands.
“We wanted to convey the message that Fifa is silencing the teams,” Germany’s head coach Hans-Dieter Flick hinted after the game.
Germany’s the captain’s job is taken over from the goalkeeper who finished his national team career Manuel Neuerilta midfield For Joshua Kimmich.
Kimmich, 29, was one of the players in the Starting Lineup who kept his mouth shut. Now, almost two years later, he said he regrets the protest.
“We did not leave a very good image as a team and as Germany,” Kimmich said on Wednesday at the national team’s press conference, among other things BBC:n and According to Politico.
Kimmich said that it is good for the players to stand behind certain values. He especially feels that it applies to him as the captain of the national team.
“But on the other hand, most of the time it’s not our job to express ourselves politically,” Kimmich reasoned.
“We tried to express ourselves in a very political way, and it took a bit of joy out of the whole tournament.”
Qatar received criticism for various human rights violations at the time of the World Cup. They have affected, among other things, minorities and migrant workers, whose labor was mainly used to build the stadiums used in the World Cup.
According to the human rights organization Amnesty, a total of thousands of migrant workers died on the construction sites. Qatar denied the information.
Kimmich said on Wednesday that the World Cup final tournament in Qatar was “excellent” for him in terms of the arrangements and conditions.
“I feel that in Germany, or even in Western countries in general, we have views that we feel are universal, and that we think should apply everywhere. But we have our own problems, our own construction sites. So maybe we should focus on them.”
“We have people whose job it is to work with politics, they are experts. I am not a political expert,” Kimmich said.
