“The results since I joined the national team show what I came to do”
The central defender of the Spanish team Aymeric Laporte made it clear that his goal is to return to Europe one day, when his time at Al-Nassr ends, and pointed out that he does not “despise” teams “like Real Madrid”, while he claimed his role with Spain.
“There will always be people for and against, we try to demonstrate as much as possible. The results since I joined the national team show a little what I have come to do, I am very happy with everything that is being achieved. There is still a lot to do. ahead, I hope, and achieve more great things,” he said in an interview with El Larguero de la Cadena Ser, collected by Europa Press.
Laporte referred to the criticism he received when he decided to play with Spain and not with France, and also when he went to Saudi Arabia. “My thing is to play football. I don’t depend on what people think about my decisions. What I went to Saudi Arabia for was to play football. So far it hasn’t gone badly for me. I’ve been able to win a European Championship while there , the most beautiful thing of my sports career,” he said.
“There are still many things to improve. They have bet heavily on football a few years ago but I have seen evolution. My idea of returning is there, I have my whole family in Europe,” he added, before being asked about a possible interest from Real Madrid. “I’m not aware of it. I’ve read. It sounds good. Obviously, teams like Real Madrid are not despised,” he said.
On the other hand, and returning to the national team, Laporte pointed out that they will compete as always against Denmark and Switzerland despite already having a ticket to the quarterfinals of the Nations League. “We have achieved what we wanted. Now, we are Spain and we cannot relax in any game, and we do not like to lose,” he noted.
Furthermore, the center-back confessed that the national team’s main objective is to be world champion in 2026. “By demonstrating what we have shown in recent years, we can compete to win the World Cup, then it could go well or badly. We will try. We have team and our ambition and objective is to get there,” he concluded.
