Mike Tyson has a peculiar habit.
Exasperated boxing match Mike Tyson’s58, and Jake Paulin27, ended in a friendly atmosphere with Paul’s victory in Texas early Saturday morning Finnish time.
Tyson, who was in place a lot and took punches, surprised the audience with his special manner.
In the match, there were situations when Tyson put the thumb part of the glove in his mouth. After the match, an interviewer asked Tyson What was it, Did he fix mouthguards or bite his own glove?
“I tend to bite my gloves during the fight, yes,” Tyson replied.
Why do you do that? the announcer continued.
“I have a biting fixation,” Tyson replied, making AT Stadion laugh.
Particular “biting fixation” is remembered from the match Evander Holyfield against in the summer of 1997. It was a World Championship match of the WBA association, when Tyson punched Holyfield in the ear in a melee situation. Holyfield got a piece of his ear.
Tyson lost to Holyfield by discus and temporarily lost his boxing license.
If Holyfield’s meeting is remembered as one of the most special matches in the history of boxing, so was the meeting between Paul and Tyson a strange show. The match itself resembled a sparring match, there was not a very heated exchange of blows.
Paul was superior in the match and, despite his words, did not go for a knockout from the significantly older and slower-reacting Tyson.
The match ended with Paul’s clear point victory with the numbers 80-72, 79-73 and 79-73.
In the match, Tyson hit significantly less than Paul. According to computer calculations, Paul landed 78 blows, while Tyson only 18. The match was played with larger than usual gloves.
