Football|Rodrigo Bentancur’s words became expensive.
Football Uruguayan midfielder of the English Premier League Rodrigo Bentancur has received a seven-match suspension and a fine of 100,000 pounds, i.e. approximately 120,000 euros, from the English Football Association (FA), told Premier League on Monday.
Bentancur used racist language when talking about his Tottenham teammate in a TV interview in the summer About Son Heung-min.
“He denied the allegations, but an independent commission of inquiry found the matter proved true and handed down the penalties, the FA informed the BBC by.”
In an interview with a Uruguayan TV channel, Bentancur was asked for a Tottenham jersey.
“Sonny’s? It could also be Sonny’s cousin because they all look alike,” Bentancur replied.
Bentancur said that he apologized to South Korean Son and explained on social media that the comment was “a really bad joke”.
With the suspension, Bentancur can only return to the field in English domestic competitions on December 26. He can play in Tottenham’s Europa League games.
