Tennis|The Spanish great wants to help his country’s success in the deciding stages of the Davis Cup.
Tennis one of the greatest players of all time Rafael Nadal will end his professional career this week in front of his home crowd in the national team competition at the Davis Cup playoff stage in Malaga.
Nadal, who has won 22 singles grand slam tournaments in his career, has also celebrated four Davis Cup championships in Spain’s shirt (in 2004, 2009, 2011, 2019). Nadal said that he is fully focused on this week’s matches, and Spain’s quarterfinal match against the Netherlands is on the schedule right away on Tuesday.
“I’m not here to retire, I’m here to help my team. Of course, this is my last week in professional tennis, but at the end of the day, it’s all about team competition. We want to play good tennis, because our opponent is tough and the conditions of the competition are challenging”, Nadal predicts the tournament to be played on the indoor court.
“It’s the turn of emotions when the matches are over.”
Nadal has not played an official singles match since the end of July and the Paris Olympics, where he also played doubles Carlos Alcarazin roll. In the deciding phase of the Davis Cup, Spain will be represented in addition to Nadal and Alcaraz Roberto Bautista Agut, Peter Martinez and Marcel Granollers.

Nadal’s career statistics from the Davis Cup are compelling reading, as the Spanish great has won 29 singles matches and lost only one in the history of the competition. Nadal has eight wins and four losses in Davis Cup doubles matches.
The other quarterfinals of the Davis Cup final tournament are Germany-Canada, USA-Australia and Italy-Argentina. The tournament culminates in the final match on Sunday. Italy is the reigning champion of the competition.
