Last year, Formula 1 world champion Sebastian Vettel bought a sailing team in the fast-paced SailGP series, and since then he has been passionate about the sport and the sea. But there is a problem: his team is following behind.
The handle comes from the depths, without warning. Divers pull Sebastian Vettel and the other sailors down. Controlling the panic, freeing yourself, continuing to breathe slowly, that’s important now in order to get back to the surface. Two knives, a life jacket, oxygen in a bottle for 15 breaths, that’s the equipment in the safety training for the SailGP. The racing series in which the team of the former Formula 1 driver starts. Several times in a season, the sailors rehearse the worst scenario: if the boat capsizes, breaks apart and pushes the sailors under water. Last year, team owner Vettel also dared to go on the boat, including a rehearsal in case of an emergency. “He didn’t really feel comfortable in the water,” says his skipper Erik Heil.
