Former Bundesliga coach Sandro Schwarz and the New York Red Bulls have reached the playoff semi-finals in the MLS. The Red Bulls won the derby against New York City FC 2-0 (2-0) and are still in sight of their first championship title in the North American league.
In the round of the last four next weekend, the Black team will face the winner of the game between Orlando City SC and Atlanta United. The MLS Cup final against the winner of the Western Conference will take place on December 7th.
Black celebrates “great victory”
At Citi Field in Queens, where the New York Mets baseball team usually plays its home games, both goals came in the first half. Felipe Carballo Ares (16th) gave the Red Bulls the lead, Dante Vanzeir (24th) ensured the final score. Former Leipzig player Emil Forsberg, captain of the Red Bulls, was in the starting line-up.
“It was a big win, but ultimately just the next step,” said Schwarz after the game. “We have to continue this hard work and take the next step next week,” said the former coach of Mainz 05 and Hertha BSC. Forsberg emphasized that he was “proud” of his teammates and made it clear: “I think some people should apologize to us.”
