Gender debate – female boxer foregoes competition

Olympic boxing champion Lin Yu-ting has withdrawn from taking part in an international tournament in the wake of the gender debate. The fighter from Taiwan will not take part in the World Boxing Cup Finals in Sheffield. The reason given by the Taiwanese sports authority is that the new world association World Boxing questioned Lin’s eligibility to participate.

“She is female, meets all eligibility criteria and has successfully competed in a women’s boxing event and won a gold medal,” the statement said: “As World Boxing was recently established and is still developing its operational mechanisms, it is missing “Unfortunately, he is missing the IOC’s clear regulatory policy, which ensures the protection of athletes’ rights.” Lin had offered to undergo a “comprehensive on-site medical examination” in Great Britain, but World Boxing did not agree to this. In order to prevent further damage to her, the withdrawal from the competition was “proactive”.

Lin and the Algerian boxer Imane Khelif, also an Olympic champion, were at the center of a gender debate at the Summer Games in Paris. The gender of both fighters was publicly questioned. They had been excluded from the World Cup by the IBA association the year before, but the International Olympic Committee (IOC) allowed them to take part in Paris. World Boxing was founded in 2023 as an alternative to the IBA, an association with numerous scandals
