Inter-Leipzig 1-0, Nerazzurri first in the standings

Not an easy victory for Inter, who beat Leipzig 1-0 and momentarily rise to first place in the Champions League top table. Lukeba’s own goal in the first half was decisive, with a late goal disallowed for the Nerazzurri by Mkhitaryan. Inter had an intense start to the match, often showing up in the Gulacsi area, conceding little to a Leipzig team who were still in the game. The turning point, however, came in the 27th minute, with the free kick taken by Dimarco which ended up in the net following a deflection into his own goal by Lukeba. An advantage that consolidates Inter’s dominance, which they suffer little even after the 1-0 goal but without any particular flare-ups in the attacking phase. We go to half-time with Inter ahead but forced to replace Pavard with Bisseck due to a physical problem suffered by the Frenchman towards the end of the first half. The second half instead begins with a good Nerazzurri opportunity, started and finished by Dumfries, who did well to free himself from a couple of opponents on the right and unload the ball which he received a few moments later in front of goal from Lautaro, without then managing to beat Gulacsi.

Leipzig trying to increase the pressing, with Rose trying to make some adjustments to his set-up despite the few players available on the bench. However, Inzaghi’s eleven appears to be quite in control, with the Germans showing up between the 68th and 69th minutes, first with Kampl’s volley from distance, wide; then Nusa’s right flat, on which Sommer dives. The Nerazzurri side also suffered a physical decline, with Inzaghi forced to make some changes to keep the attention high in a match in which Inter had the upper hand from the point of view of their play but were unable to close it out. In the first of the four minutes of injury time, Mkhitaryan would have scored the 2-0, but it was annulled due to an alleged foul called by the referee for an intervention by Thuram. Inter still managed to bring home a result that was not large but deserved overall.
