Swedish Frida Karlsson offered shock treatment to the most talked about athlete of the Ruka World Cup on Friday Therese Johaugillewho returned to the international tracks in Kuusamo after a two-year break.
Johaug finished second in his comeback race, but lost to Karlsson in the traditional tenth by almost 50 seconds. After the race, the Swede was praised in the fjords.
“It’s a cliché to say this, but he’s in a class of his own. Johaug was simply knocked out,” by the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation NRK: n expert Fredrik Aukland quoth.
“We haven’t seen a performance of that class in a while. Johaug, who almost never loses intermediate starts, gets a lesson from Karlsson”, the commentator Jann Post added.
Viaplay expert Niklas Dyrhaug believed that Karlsson had skied the race of his life.
“We haven’t seen a similar display of strength since Therese left the slopes.”
Norwegian newspaper The Walk of the World (VG) headlined in its news that Johaug was crushed by Karlsson. Karlsson’s performance was praised by the magazine as stunning.
Another Norwegian magazine Dagbladet treated the competition in similar terms. According to the newspaper’s post-race headline, Johaug was figuratively beaten blue and yellow.
Norway took third place in the competition Astrid Øyre Slindwho lost to Karlsson by almost a minute. Ranked 12th as the best Finn Krista Pärmäkoski was almost a minute and a half behind the leader.
