Former Formula 1 boss Bernie Ecclestone (94) is already settling his estate. The Englishman is selling an impressive collection of historic Grand Prix and Formula 1 cars through a British specialist. The 69 million-dollar rarities also include the legendary Ferrari F2002, in which the later record world champion Michael Schumacher raced to his fifth world title.
“I love all my cars, but it’s time for me to think about what will happen to them when I’m gone and that’s why I’ve decided to sell them,” explained Ecclestone, who left after taking over Liberty Media was replaced as managing director of Formula 1 in 2017 after several decades.
50 years of passion for collecting
“After collecting and owning them for so long, I want to know where they stay and not leave them to my wife, who would have to take care of them when I’m gone,” the Brit continued, who was at the beginning of his career himself worked as a car dealer.
Ecclestone has been married to the Brazilian Fabiana Flosi, who is several decades his junior, since 2012. He lives with her in Switzerland and also on a farm near São Paulo. The couple has a young son.
“I have been collecting these cars for more than 50 years and have always bought only the best examples,” explained Ecclestone. “While many other collectors have chosen sports cars over the years, my passion has always been Grand Prix and Formula 1 cars.”
