According to sports director Max Eberl, record football champions Bayern Munich are not in contact with Leverkusen’s young star Florian Wirtz about a possible commitment next summer. “We are currently in contact with the players where we want to extend contracts. Jamal (Musiala) is our top target. We speak, and we speak very, very well,” said Eberl on the sidelines of the cup game against Bayer Leverkusen on ARD, also with a view to the contract negotiations with national team captain Joshua Kimmich.
Musiala’s contract expires in 2026, Kimmich could leave on a free transfer in the summer. Eberl apparently does not expect an agreement before Christmas. “These are important decisions for both of them. Of course we respect that too. A time over Christmas is a good time to think about such elementary decisions,” the manager added and emphasized: “What I feel: It is very, very positive, very, very pleasant, very, very appreciative.”
Wirtz still has a contract in Leverkusen until 2027 and his market value is estimated at over 100 million euros. Several top European clubs are also said to be interested.
