Indian chess commentators freak out live on air

It turned out to be tough World Chess Championship in Singapore so far. The score was 5:5 after ten games between world champions Ding Liren from China and challenger Gukesh from India. Eight games ended in a draw.

But on Sunday the 18-year-old Indian struck. The title defender, playing with Black, withdrew his queen to C8 on move 28 – a serious mistake. The commentators on the Indian internet broadcast could no longer stay on their seats. Shortly afterwards, Ding Liren gave up – the cheering was almost endless. Can be seen in the following video:

The ChessBase India stream had almost 50,000 live viewers.

It’s now in the World Cup duel 6:5 for Gukeshwho could become the youngest world chess champion in history. He needs 7.5 points to win. If the score is 7:7 after 14 duels, the World Cup fight will continue with games with shorter consideration times.
