Coritiba must hire the veteran Geovane as the first reinforcement for the 2025 season. The player is in talks with Coxa and is free on the market, as the contract with Novorizontino ended at the end of the year.
The information was released by ge.com and confirmed by UmDois. Geovane is 35 years old and played the last two seasons for the team from the interior of São Paulo, which came very close to gaining access both in 2023 and 2024, when it stumbled in the last rounds and ended up in fifth place.
The player was a request from coach Mozart, who worked with the midfielder at CSA between 2021 and 2022. In 2021, the coach almost promoted the team from Alagoas, and finished the competition in fifth place.
Coritiba’s target midfielder suffered injuries in 2024
The athlete’s 2024 season was marked by some injuries. In the first week of Paulistão, he needed treatment for a muscle injury, and only returned in the knockout stage, almost a month later.
Then, he had other episodes that made him miss some games during the year. The athlete himself considered that the episodes hindered his performance during the season.
“I started the year very well, scoring goals, I suffered with some difficult injuries, a cyst, inflammation in the Achilles tendon and that left me in DM for a while and whether I wanted to or not hindered me a little during the season”, he said in an interview with ge.comin October.
“Because every time I picked up the pace, a problem like this would come up and I would have to start again. Thank you for coming back and helping the team at a very important time like this,” he added.
In 2024, the player played 37 games, 27 as a starter, scored three goals and provided two assists. In 2023, also for Novorizontino, he played 52 games as a starter, seven goals and two assists.
Coritiba: likely reinforcement left Vila Nova for rival Goiás
Raised in the Goiás base, Geovane made his professional debut with Vila Nova. The athlete alternated different seasons between the two football rivals in Goiás.
In his most active season at Tigre, the midfielder played in the 2016 to 2018 seasons, fighting for promotion to the Second Division.
In 2019, he went to Goías, who had gained access in the previous season and competed in Série A.
At the time, the player even said that he suffered from some messages he received after the exchange.
“I received messages, some of which were quite annoying. It wasn’t an easy decision for me or for Goiás. But I’m a professional. I have to make difficult choices in my life,” he said in an interview with ge.com at the time.
Afterwards, he went to CSA, where he stayed for three seasons, with 142 games, four goals and six assists. With Mozart, Geovane made 54 appearances, scoring two goals and providing two assists.
