Goggi returns after 10 months and is second in the descent

Sofia Goggia finished in second place in the Beaver Creek downhill, valid for the Alpine Skiing World Cup, after returning from an injury ten months ago, in which she suffered a fractured tibia and malleolus. The Italian finished her race with a time of 1’32″54, behind the Austrian Cornelia Huetter, winner in 1’32″38. Completing the podium was Swiss Lara Gut-Behrami (1’32″72).

Fourth place for the American Lauren Macuga (1’32″90) who leaves behind the Austrian Ricarda Haser (1’32″94) and the Czech Ester Ledecka (1’32″98). In addition to Goggia, two other Italians finishing in the top ten: Marta Bassino (1’33″02) seventh and Federica Brignone (1’33″25) also points ninth (1’33″27) eleventh, Roberta Melesi (1’32″95) eighteenth, Elena Curtoni (1’34″38) twenty-fourth and Nadia Delago (1’34″68) twenty-seventh.

“I had a good race, not an excellent one, in my opinion I managed to ski more discreetly on my feet in the upper part, clearly having always struggled in the two tests of the last few days, today I was very careful”, says Goggia. “It’s as if I skied for the entire race at 80% of my potential. It’s still an excellent result for which I would have signed on the eve, but having left out those 16 cents in the last part which cost me the victory they are there for me, they will be the fire for the supergiant on Sunday.”
