Roma beats Sampdoria and flies to the quarter-finals of the Italian Cup

Roma beat Sampdoria 4-1 at the Olimpico and have qualified for the quarter-finals of the Italian Cup, in which they will face Milan at San Siro. Between two teams in difficulty in their respective A and B championships, the Giallorossi prevailed easily and between the ninth and 19th minute they scored with a brace from Dovbyk. Baldanzi scored the 3-0 goal in the 24th minute, then in the second half Yepes scored the goal in the 61st minute and Shomurodov closed the match in the 79th minute.

The Giallorossi team had an excellent approach to the match, becoming dangerous after just four minutes with a nice right-footed shot from Baldanzi which was punched away by Vismara. Claudio Ranieri’s boys continue to push and in the 9th minute they take the lead thanks to a goal by Artem Dovbyk did well to deflect Zalewski’s perfect cross into the goal with his left foot. The Blucerchiati felt the pinch and Roma took advantage of the positive moment to make it 2-0 in the 19th minute again with Dovbyk, who scored his personal brace by taking advantage of a mess by Meulensteen on Saelemaekers’ cross.

Not even time to reorganize the ideas for Sampdoria, as the Capitoline team scores the hat trick with Tommaso Baldanzi: in the 24th minute the former Empoli player receives a great ball from Paredes, advances to the edge of the area and beats Vismara. Three minutes later, a treacherous cross-shot by Zalewski puts the visitors’ goalkeeper in difficulty, but he manages to save himself. Leonardo Semplici’s boys struggle to overcome the opponent’s half of the field, but in the 36th minute a somewhat surprising opportunity arrives following an error by Rayn, which however does not lead to further developments. At the end of the first half Dovbyk tries again, but is blocked for a corner. We go to half-time with a score of 3-0.

In the second half Sampdoria made a couple of substitutions to try to reopen the dispute and in the 61st minute he manages to close the gap with Gerard Yepeswho takes advantage of an error by Hermoso and capitalizes on Depaoli’s assist to the max. Claudio Ranieri also decided to change something and the new arrivals immediately created a great danger in the opposing rearguard: in the 64th minute Soule’ made a good play, but his conclusion crashed against the crossbar. A minute later Dovbyk, all alone in front of Vismara, devours the chance for his hat-trick. Ukrainian is taken over by Eldor Shomurodov, who a few seconds after entering the field, immediately scores with a header from Angelino’s cross, bringing the final score to 4-1. By virtue of this result, Roma qualifies for the quarter-finals of the Italian Cup scheduled for February, where they will meet Milan. The Giallorossi will return to the field on Sunday at 12.30 at the Olimpico to face Parma in the seventeenth matchday of Serie A.
