Italian Cup, Inter beats Udinese and reaches the quarterfinals

Everything was easy for Simone Inzaghi’s Inter: the Nerazzurri won 2-0 against Udinese and qualified for the quarter-finals where they will challenge Lazio. Arnautovic and Asllani’s goals were decisive the Bianconeri – after a good start – were unable to worry the hosts, thus the Friulians’ journey in the Italian Cup ends after eliminating Avellino and Salernitana. Inzaghi gave the starters a breather by sending an experimental Inter onto the pitch and the attacking duo of Taremi and Arnautovic. Udinese responded with an identical formation, with Lucca as the sole striker and the former Sanchez in support. The first dangerous action was that of Ekkelenkamp, the Juventus midfielder’s shot ended just wide. In the 5th minute Arnautovic won a penalty for a handball by Kabasele, but after a review at VAR Massimi changed the decision by canceling the penalty. The first goal of the evening came in the 30th minute with Arnautovic himself, after an error by Ekkelenkamp the Austrian – served by Taremi – beat Piana with a diagonal shot to the opposite post.

In the 41st minute the match was interrupted due to a spectator falling ill in the first blue ring: at the restart of the game Asllani, directly from a corner, found the goal to make it 2-0. In the second half the Bianconeri were unable to create any danger, not even the substitutions made by Runjaic gave a shock: the first ring was from Abankwah, but the conclusion ended just wide. A minute later Taremi, launched by Lautaro, hit the post. The only dangerous shot was that of Toure, but Martinez deflected the ball into a corner kick. Both teams will return to the field on Monday 23rd to face the seventeenth round of Serie A: the Bianconeri will challenge Fiorentina while the Nerazzurri will welcome Como.
