Women’s volleyball, Conegliano wins their third club world championship in six years

Prosecco Doc Imoco Conegliano is world club champion in women’s volleyball. The Venetian team clearly defeated the hosts Tianjin Bohai Bank 3-0 in the final held in Hangzhou, China (set: 25-21; 25-15; 25-20). For Conegliano this is the third world club title after those of 2019 and 2022.

With Imoco Conegliano’s success in the Club World Cup, Italian women’s volleyball concludes an extraordinary 2024 crowned with the gold medal at the Paris Olympics. Today coach Daniele Santarelli’s girls placed the icing on the already rich cake. In fact, in the calendar year that is now about to end, the Treviso team has won the Italian Cup for the sixth time, the seventh Scudetto, the eighth Italian Super Cup and the third Champions League. For Conegliano, the performance in the final of the opposite player Isabelle Haak (25 points), of the spikers Zhu Ting (13 points) and Gabi (10) and of the central defender Sarah Fahr (11) was excellent. Also on the roster are Cristina Chirichella, Joanna Wolosz and libero Monica De Gennaro.

In China the Venetian team did not lose any match. After defeating the Brazilians Dentil Praia Clube (vice champions of South America) 3-0 in the group stage, the Vietnamese team LP Bank Ninh Binh (vice champions of Asia) and the Japanese team NEC Red Rockets Kawasaki (champions ‘Asia), in the semi-final they also easily got rid of coach Stefano Lavarini’s Numia Vero Volley Milano (European vice champion). The Milanese, led by the always irrepressible Paola Egonu (22 points), today won the final for third place by beating Praia Club 3 to 0.
