Alpine skiing the men’s world cup experienced moments of horror on Friday, when the French alpine star Cyprien Sarrazin lost control of his descent during the skydive practice of the competitions in Bormio, Italy, and crashed back-first into the slope. Sarrazin’s momentum stopped only in the safety net.

Swiss magazine Blick on the website it was reported that 30-year-old Sarrazin received first aid at the scene and was transported by helicopter to the hospital.

At first, there was no exact information on the condition of the Frenchman, who is 14th in the World Cup, but according to Blick, Eurosport knew that Sarrazin was conscious and at least complained of leg pain after the crash. According to the AFP news agency, the French Skiing Federation confirmed that Sarrazin was conscious and underwent more detailed examinations in the hospital.

After investigations, the French Ski Federation specified that Sarrazin suffered from a head injury that required urgent surgical treatment. He was bleeding inside his head and had surgery to relieve the pressure on his brain.

Sarrazin has won a total of five Alpine Skiing World Cup competitions in his career, four of them in speed sports. A year ago, he won the skydiving competition in Bormio, and he was also a diver in Thursday’s practice.

Finland Elian Lehto has kept a decent pace in Bormio and made it to the finish line in his practice runs on Thursday and Friday. On Saturday, the locality will compete in the downhill competition and on Sunday, the super giant slalom competition.
